Abstract

830,336. Two-stroke engines. EBERHARDT, H., and ZIMMERMANN, H. G. April 13, 1956 [April 14, 1955], No. 11400/56. Classes 7(2) and 7(3) A pump piston 4, Figs. 3 and 4, delivers combustible mixture tangentially into a power cylinder 1 via a duct 6 which is horizontal or downwardly directed on to the working piston 2 which may be flat-topped or have a co-acting recess 13, scavenging air inlet ports 10 and an exhaust port 11 being provided. The duct 6 is fed by a pump piston duct 7 which lies adjacent the power cylinder wall to effect charge pre-heating and which ends in a cylindrical or tapered portion 8. The piston 4 may compress the mixture to 3 or 6 atmospheres and its swept volume may be 5% to 15% of that of the piston 2. In Fig. 6 there are two ducts 6 which may have two coacting recesses 13 in the flat-topped or slightly domed working piston. In Fig. 7 (not shown) a piston 4 is driven from the main crankshaft, in Fig. 8 (not shown) it is driven from an auxiliary shaft chain-driven from the main crankshaft, whilst Fig. 9 shows such an auxiliary shaft 23 driving an inverted piston 4. Reference is made to the use of carburetted fuel oil.
