Abstract

204,914. Dolman, H. J. Oct. 14, 1922. Regulating; valves.-A revolving-cylinder engine is made to work on a two or four-stroke cycle by placing between the admission manifold and the carburettor a cam-actuated valve K, Fig. 4. The carburettor is connected to the inlet I; for a multicylinder engine when on the two-stroke cycle, mixture only is admitted, but when working on the four-stroke cycle, the valve alternately admits mixture from the carburettor and air through the sleeve J, this sleeve acting as a seating to cut off the air supply during alternate admission strokes to the crank cases. The sleeve may be adjusted so as always to admit a small amount of air. As applied to a three-cylinder engine, the stationary hollow crank shaft f serves as the admission manifold, the big ends of the connecting-rods e and the shaft being ported to act as the admission valves to the crank chambers. The crank chambers are separated from one another by plates carried on the shaft.
