Abstract
221,010. Invernairn, (W. Beardmore), Lord, and Chorlton, A. E. L. June 2, 1923. Two - stroke - cycle engines; pumps.-A portion of the exhaust gas escapes through an auxiliary port which is uncovered by the piston before the main exhaust port and is led to an ejector. nozzle in the main exhaust passage from another cylinder so as to expedite the flow of exhaust from, and the entry of the charge, into this cylinder. The Figure shows the application to a two-stroke-cycle engine having two or more pairs of twin cylinders connected by a common combustion space C, the pistons D, E of each pair being connected to a common crank-pin F. The exhaust escapes through the auxiliary port J and by flowing through a nozzle L in the exhaust pipe M of another pair of cylinders expedites the entry of scavenging air through a port G. Means may be provided to regulate the flow of exhaust from the port J.
