Abstract

596,958. Two-stroke engines. ECHARD, M. Aug. 7, 1945, No. 20226. Convention date, July 3, 1944. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi] In a radial cylinder two-stroke engine in which pairs of cylinders 15, 16 with common combustion chambers 1 and piston controlled inlet and exhaust ports, are supplied by a pump driven from the crankshaft by gearing 9, 10, a bye-pass valve 24, provided on the delivery side of the pump, is connected on the main throttle valve 27 so as to open when the throttle valve is closed, and vice versa, this connection being preferably subject to altitude control. The pump comprises vanes 12 rotated by a. rotor 12<1> driven by the gear wheel 10, and compresses air intoa stream-lined casing 2. Liquid fuel is injected by nozzles 31 arranged between pairs of inlet ports. The exhaust piston is slightly in advance of the inlet piston and alternate pairs of cylinders exhaust into one or other of two annular exhaust passages 5, 20.
