[Class 7 (ii)] In a rotating-cylinder engine, the cylinder 14 is mounted on a member 12 which, in addition to its rotation, is caused to oscillate through gearing 24, 25 and a connecting-rod 27, from a member 9 rotated by a planet wheel 28 rolling inside a fixed gear wheel 29. The wheel 28 is pivoted in a member 8, keyed to the crankshaft 2, which is connected to the piston through a curved crank 5. A two - stroke engine is shown in which the charge, received from a carburetter through a pipe 23 and annular chamber 20, is drawn into the cylinder through piston-controlled ports 22, the exhaust being extracted through passages 30, 32, by a centrifugal pump 17 and blown through an annular chamber 18. Alternatively air may be drawn in through the port 22 and rich-mixture injected by a pump through a nozzle 36. This pump comprises a plunger carried by the revolving cylinder and operated by a fixed cam. The engine may operate as a Diesel engine and on the four-stroke-cycle.
