730,529. Two-stroke engines ; driving gear. GUILLON, M. Sept. 8, 1953 [Sept. 15, 1952], No. 24785/53. Class 7(2). In a two-stroke engine with crankcase compression comprising two coaxial cylinders 3, 4 disposed one on each side of a crankshaft 2, and a piston 5, 6, respectively, in each cylinder, the pistons are interconnected by a plurality of rods 30 and only one of the pistons is connected to the crankshaft by a connecting rod 7. The four or six rods 30 are guided in bronze bushes 10, 13, and the two cylinders 3 and 4 are separated by the base 11 of the crankcase 1 ; a mixture of fuel /air /lubricating oil is drawn into the cylinders from a carburetter, not shown, through ports 21, 21<SP>1</SP> on the outstroke of each piston before being compressed by the underside thereof and admitted to the cylinders through transfer passages 14, 22, the latter having two inlet ports 18, 19 in the piston 6. The ignition is effected by sparking plugs 26, 26<SP>1</SP> and the burnt gases are forced out of the exhaust ports 20, 20<SP>1</SP> by the incoming mixture. The engine may operate with petrol or air injection and the lubricant may be supplied by a pump in the crankcase ; a fly wheel need not be provided.
