Abstract

6581. Draper, F. R. March 16. Two - stroke - c y c l e engines; pumps; ex haust-silencers. - In an engine having a pair o: pistons acted upon by single impulse, the cy linder containing t h e inlet port is inclined to and formed of smaller diameter than the cy linder containing t h e exhaust port. Fig. 1 shows an engine having a vertical cylinder E from which the exhausi products are withdrawr through a port S by a fly-wheel fan shown in Fig. 3, and an inclined cylinder D of smaller diameter than the cylinder E, containing inlet ports R. Both sets of ports are piston-controlled, the piston controlling the ports R being connected to a lug 0 on the connecting-rod H. Combustible charges are admitted to the crank chamber through a port W, but when using air charges these may be carburetted in the trans. fer passage T. Stage compression may also be used.
