Abstract

1023. Pradeau, C. W. Jan. 14. Two-stroke-cycle engines compress a combustible charge in the annular space b, and expel it through a spring-loaded valve s into the cylinder c. Air is compressed in the crank chamber, and passes through the hollow tailrod m and ports g when the exhaust port u is uncovered. The air may be admitted to the crank chamber through the ports f, p, or through lift valves in the end of the sleeve e or tail-rod m, or through a valve in the crank chamber. The two pistons h, j are held together by a bolt o, Fig. 2. The passage of air through the piston tends to cool it.
