438,929. Direct-acting compressors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. March 8, 1935, No. 7265. Convention date, March 13, 1934. [Class 8 (i)] The timing of the fuel-injection valve of a freepiston motorcompressor is automatically determined by a pressure in the internal - combustion cylinder, the ignition being effected by pressure. Fuel is injected by a differential piston 24, Fig. 1, actuated by the combustion pressure applied through a conduit 26 and this pressure applied through the fuel opens the spring- pressed injection valve 8. Fig. 2 shows the valve actuated by a lever 31 from the piston 9, the pivot of the lever being adjustable through an eccentric 32 and rod 34 in accordance with the pressure of supercharging air introduced through ports 21. The control cylinder 35 may alternatively be connected to the exhaust manifold 45 in place of the inlet manifold 37.
