Abstract

406,173. Four-stroke-cycle compression-ignition engines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. June 8, 1933, No. 16496. Convention date, June 24, 1932. [Class 7 (ii).] The piston 18 of a supercharging pump passes its dead - centre position between the supercharging periods of the engine cylinder. After the inlet valve 14 closes and before the engine piston 12 reaches the end of its stroke the port 16 is uncovered and air forced in while the pump piston 18 is moving. Turbulence is promoted by tangential arrangement of the ports. The crank 19 driving the pump is arran ed out of the plane of the engine crank 3.
