[Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine in which the depression produced during the exhaust period is used to improve the scavenging, air compressed in the crankcase is delivered to the cylinder during either the whole or the latter part only of the exhaust period, and ceases to be so delivered at or after the end of the exhaust period. The crankcase air may be delivered either through piston - controlled ports g, or through cam-controlled valves, preferably in the cylinder head. Non-return valves prevent return flow to the crankcase, or an oil separator may be fitted in the transfer passage f.
