[Class 7 (ii)] In a two-stroke engine, oper. ating with crank-case compres. sion, straight transfer passages 3 end in inclined ports 4, and have helical branches 5 ending in ports 6, the streams of charging mixture being thus caused to flow as shown by the arrows with a vortical movement. Exhaust ports 2 are arranged symmetrically in the opposite wall and the ports are opened by the piston in the order 2, 4, 6.
