521,460. Valves. SCHURTER, W. Nov. 18, 1938, No. 33605. Convention date, Nov. 20, 1937. [Class 7 (vi)] In a four-stroke engine, the exhaust passage controlled by a valve V2 and the inlet passage controlled by a valve V1 are further controlled by a flap valve 3, which may be placed in three positions, first, to connect both passages to the exhaust A, secondly, to connect the valve V1 to the inlet E and the valve V2 to the exhaust A at the same time as shown, and, thirdly, to connect both passages to the inlet E, thus giving an intervening scavenging period.
