[Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] Gas stored under pressure in a cylinder N is injected, during the compression stroke, through a mechanically or automatically operated valve I into a combustion chamber J where it mixes with air drawn into the engine cylinder past a valve C during the suction stroke, and the mixture is ignited by a sparking plug K. In a multi-cylinder engine the gas is fed past an expansion valve M to a distributer G, the inlet of which is controlled by a cock L operated conjointly with a valve D in the air inlet P.
