Abstract

1332619 Pre-combustion chambers HONDA GIKEN KOGYOKK 12 April 1972 [15 April 1971] 16955/72 Heading F1B I.C. engine has a main combustion chamber 2, a sub-combustion chamber 4 having an ignition means 16 therein and connected with the main combustion chamber through an opening 3, and sub-intake pipe 8 and 14 connected to the sub-combustion chamber, a fuel injector 10 disposed in the sub-intake pipe and fuel metering means 11 for supplying liquid gas fuel from a pressure adjusting device 12 to the injector, the fuel injector being arranged to supply liquid gas fuel to the sub-combustion chamber to be ignited therein, so that the flame generated in the sub-combustion chamber ignites a fuel/air mixture in the main combustion chamber. Inlet valves 7, 9 control the flow of combustion air into the main and sub-chambers respectively and are operated by common valve gear. The air is drawn in through an air cleaner 15, and the main combustion air entrains fuel from a liquid fuel supply tank 18. The main fuel may also be a liquid gas fuel.
