Abstract
524,778. Plant ; starting. HANSA-GASGENERATOREN GES. Feb. 7, 1939, No. 4036. Convention date, Feb. 7, 1938. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (v)] To kindle a gas generator connected to an internal-combustion engine, some of the gas inlet pipes leading to the engine cylinders are closed by valves and supplied with mixture from a carburetter, to enable part of the cylinders to operate on a fuel-air mixture while the remaining cylinders act as pumps to draw air through the generator. As shown in Fig. 1, the engine cylinders 4a, 4b, normally draw gas from a pipe 1 connected to the generator and air past a valve 8b, the mixture being controlled by a valve 8a. To kindle the generator, a valve 5 is closed and the cylinders 4a are supplied with mixture from a carburetter 7, while the cylinders 4b draw air through the generator, the valve 8b being closed. To facilitate starting, the valve 8a is closed and the valve 5 opened to supply mixture from the carburetter to all the cylinders. Preferably, the pipe 3 containing the valve 5 is slightly larger than the pipe 2. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, the cylinders 4a, 4b are supplied by separate pipes 9-12, and a carburetter 14 supplies mixture to the pipes 10, 11, when the valves 13 are closed.
