Abstract

548,125. Spray carburetters. McDONNELL, C. A., and TRACY, P. J. July 24, 1941, No. 9389. [Class 7 (iii)] Heavy oil such as kerosene, creosote or diesel oil is heated prior to entering the carburetter and the combustible mixture leaving the carburetter is again heated before entering the engine intake. As shown, the fuel supply pipe 5 leading to the carburetter 6 passes at 5a through an engine exhaust pipe 4. The air supply to the carburetter is heated in a casing 11 around the exhaust pipe and is admitted through a pipe 12 and a manually actuated valve 13. Mixture from the carburetter passes a manually actuated throttle 7 and through a restricted passage 8a to conduits 9 passing through an exhaustheated chamber 3. The conduits 9 are flattened alternately vertically and horizontally with a restricted passage between the vertical and horizontal portions. From the conduits 9 a pipe 10 leads to the inlet manifold 1a. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 12264/05, [Class 7], 28175/11, 4652/13, 107,894, 115,826, 129,447, [all in Class 7 (iii)], 400,403, 421,255 and 482,602.
