Abstract

597,807. Oil engines. ETABLISSEMENTS LYONNAIS ROCHET-SCHNEIDER. Feb. 21, 1941, No. 2388. Convention date, Feb. 23, 1940. [Class 7 (iii)] Air is admitted to the cylinder through two separate pipes 4 and 5 leading to at least two valves 2 and 3 arranged on a diameter, one at each side of the fuel injector 8, so that the entering air follows the direction of the arrows x and y, producing an increased whirling effect. One of the inlet pipes may be arranged, as shown at 12, adjacent to the exhaust pipe 13, so that the air admitted at that side is heated. Further, the air supplied to one valve may be compressed, and that supplied to the other may be subjected to a depression by the use of a throttle valve in the inlet pipe. A cavity may be provided in the face of the piston, the orifices of the injector 8 being then so arranged that the fuel jets are directed obliquely into the cavity but are prevented by the increased turbulence from striking the walls thereof.
