Abstract

528,448. Oil engines. WALKER, E. B. April 21, 1939, No. 12040. [Class 7 (iii)] An air-cell 4 communicates with the combustion chamber 8, 9 through a nozzle with helical passages 3 by which the air entering the cylinder is whirled. Fuel is sprayed into the combustion chamber by an injector housed in the space x. The part of the combustion chamber located in the piston is roughly spherical with an elongated opening conforming to the diverging part of the passage 9. The grooves 3 widen towards the combustion chamber. In a four stroke engine inlet and exhaust valves are located in the cylinder head the inlet valve being associated with means to whirl the entering charge. The engine uses compression ignition and has a compression ratio of 17.7 to 1.
