Abstract
513,766. Oil engines. KAMMER, G. S. June 25, 1938, No. 18932. [Class 7 (iii)] In an oil engine having a combustion chamber 2 connected to the cylinder space 15 by a passage 12 entered by a tapered plug 4 on the piston 5 at the end of the compression stroke, a non-return valve 6 is provided in a passage 10,11 in the plug to permit flow only from the cylinder space to the chamber. The air charge may rotate about the cylinder axis and the walls of the chamber may be provided with guides 14 to deflect the air around the periphery of the chamber. Part of the fuel delivered by the nozzle 3 impinges on the valve. In a modified construction the combustion chamber or the passage is rotatable about the axis of the passage and the passage is provided with grooves, which are brought into varying degrees of register with grooves in the plug by a regulator dependent on engine speed.
