Abstract
442,598. Oil engines. CARTER, E., South Lawn, St. Paul's Street, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Aug. 11, 1934, No. 23214. [Class 7 (iii)] In an engine of the type having a pro jection 6 on the piston 5 which enters a pas sage between a com bustion chamber 1 and the cylinder, passage: 7 are bored in the annular part of the piston and lead to an inclined passage 9 in the projection 6 to direct the air tangentially into the chamber. The inlet and exhaust valves 3 are disposed in the chamber, which may be of spherical or cylindrical form, and the fuel is injected from the nozzle 11 in the direction of the swirling air.
