Abstract
433,838. Oil engines. BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd., and CROSET, L. P., Rutland Engineering Works, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Nov. 24, 1934, No. 33799. [Class 7 (iii)] The narrow combustion chamber g of a compression-ignition engine has a constricted passage f which receives a cylindrical projection e on the piston, the diameter of the projection being greater than the width of the combustion chamber. The air is forced from the cylinder into the combustion chamber through a semicircular or rectangular inclined channel k, Fig. 2, formed in the wall of the chamber or through an inclined cylindrical passage k, Fig. 6, cut through the wall. The combustion chamber is formed as a disc cut from the central portion of a sphere and is offset with respect to the cylinder axis. Inlet and exhaust valves h are located in the flat walls of the chamber and a fuel injector l is arranged on the periphery either offset and delivering fuel vertically downwards or on the axis of the chamber and delivering fuel across the chamber.
