Abstract

403,980. Oil engines. OLDHAM, R., Holmwood, Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. June 28, 1932, No. 18203. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] To control the velocity of the air entering a combustion chamber 4 separated from the cylinder 2 by a narrow passage 5, an adjustable member 8 is moved across the passage 5 or the throat of the chamber. The member 8 may be moved by hand, electrically, or mechanically, and may be provided with grooved faces. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the member 8 is hollow and has graduated perforations of varying sizes which split up the air into minute streams. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the member 8 has the form of a cylindrical valve and is operated by a worm shaft 9 to control the throats of the combustion chamber 4. The member 8 may be provided with oblique ports, and a peripheral recess may be formed around it.
