Abstract

357,519. Combustion chambers. CLERGET, P., 38, Rue Boileau, Paris. May 22, 1930, No. 15810. Convention date, May 25, 1929. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] The combustion chamber 3 of a fuel-injection engine has a part of its wall formed as an upward extension of the cylinder and shaped as shown in plan in Fig. 2. The inlet and exhaust valves 1, 2 are so disposed in the cylinder head that the air traverses a U-shaped path and rotates in the cylinder after the valves are closed. Fuel entering through an injector 5 is divided by being projected on to a protruding part 6 of the combustion chamber. The speed of rotation of the air may be increased by admitting it under pressure. A recess 4 in the piston is similar in shape to the combustion chamber. Alternative arrangements of the valves are described. Several fuel injectors may be located in the combustion chamber. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that mixture may be employed instead of air. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
