Abstract
540,658. Fuel-injection engines. BUTLER, J. F., and REBBECK, F. E. Aug. 27, 1940, No. 13505. [Class 7 (iii)] A recess d in the piston is formed with a projecting rim a which enters a corresponding recess e in the cylinder head or in an opposing piston c, the rim being formed with a port f through which the fuel from an injector h enters, and with a slot g through which the air charge is compressed so as to cause a whirling of the fuel and air in the combustion chamber formed by the mating recesses. The rim may be formed by a cup-shaped refractory or heatresisting member fixed in the recess d. The rim a may be provided in the recess in the cylinder head.
