Abstract

433,672. Oil engines. BLACKSTONE & CO., Ltd., and JACKSON, P., Rutland Engineering Works, Stamford, Lincolnshire. Nov. 24, 1934, No. 33798. [Class 7 (iii)] The combustion chamber of a compressionignition engine is connected to the working cylinder by a passage h and is formed by a volume of revolution d, such as a cylinder, sphere or ellipsoid, in which are located the air inlet and exhaust valves g; the chamber is surmounted at its periphery by a conical part e which houses a fuel injector f. A rotary motion is imparted to the air in the combustion chamber by admitting it either through a port k, Fig. 1 formed between a projection j on the piston b and the passage h or through a passage k, Fig. 7, cut through the wall dividing the combustion chamber from the cylinder, in which construction a projection j<1> on the cylinder head may enter a recess in the piston. The conical part may be offset relatively to the cylinder axis.
