Abstract

249,327. Haddan, R., (Acro, Akt.-Ges.). April 3, 1925. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In engines wherein fuel is injected into air compressed in the cylinder, and the piston has a cavity forming part of the combustion chamber the cavity has a constricted mouth or mouths affording a throttled inlet or inlets for air and fuel during the compression stroke. The cavity is indicated at b and its contracted mouth at h. In Fig. 4, there are two mouths each facing a fuel injection nozzle d. In Fig. 5, the mouth is formed in a boss k and outlets l are provided from the cavity to that part of the combustion chamber e outsidethe recess into which the boss has entered. The cavity may be inclined so as to be directed towards a laterally disposed fuel injector and its mouth may communicate with the combustion chamber through a divergent passage i. The exhaust valve is shown at g. Specification 231,884 is referred to.
