Abstract

233,924. Gatti, M. July 9, 1924. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In a twostroke-cycle engine with main and auxiliary cylinders 1, 3 connected near the combustion chamber by ports 12, the scavenging air is supplied by a blower to ports 13 controlled by the auxiliary piston, the main piston controlling the exhaust ports 10. The main piston leads the auxiliary piston so that after the main piston has passed its upper dead centre the auxiliary piston moves still further inward and as the ports 12 are then closed compresses air to a high pressure in the top of the cylinders 3. This air is used to inject fuel which has been supplied by a pump through the valve nozzle 19 to a chamber 40; this chamber is closed at the top by an air valve 37 and at the bottom by a plate with a cylinder injection valve 38. The valve 38 has a head 41 resting in a recess 39 in the air valve 37 ; the air closes the passage 15 between the tops of the two cylinders except when fuel injection is to take place when the air valve moves first and then carries the injection valve with it.
