Abstract

636,351. Fuel-injection pumps. INJECTOR CO. AKTIEBOLAG. July 7, 1947, No. 17865. Convention date, July 13, 1946. [Class 102(i)] In a multi-cylinder fuel injection pump, the supply chamber 5 is fitted with a yieldable member 20, exposed to the atmosphere, which eliminates the surges of pressure in the chamber and is positioned so that the difference between its distance from the furthest and nearest cylinders is reduced to a minimum. Fig. 3 shows the cylinders 7 in line and a port 18 at the centre of the line communicating with the diaphragm 20; further ports 21, 22 may be provided. Each cylinder 7 may be provided with suction and delivery valves 3, 4 and a byepass port 8 opened by a groove 9 in the piston connected by a passage 10 to the working space. The stroke of the piston is limited by the adjustable stop 16. Alternatively the delivery of the pump may be controlled by the provision of the normal helical control surfaces on the piston.
