Abstract

266,688. Junkers, H. Feb. 26, 1926, [Convention date.] Regulating delivery by opening by-passes and suction valves.-In a fuel pump for internal-combustion engines, the fuel is returned to the suction port 3 at a definite point in the delivery stroke by means of passages 6, 7, 10 in the plunger. In another form the fuel is returned to a by-pass port in the cylinder wall by ports 6, 7 in the plunger and a recess in the ,cylinder wall. In another form the fuel is bypassed through one or more slots in the cylinder wall controlled by an edge on the plunger. In another. form, the by-pass slot is in the plunger and is controlled by an edge on the cylinder wall. The slots may be distributed with respect to the port 3 so as to prevent unequal distribution of pressure between the plunger and cylinder. In another form, a reduced extension of the plunger controls a by-pass port in an extension of the cylinder. The moment of cut-off may be adjusted by providing the plunger with a recess 40 having an inclined edge 42 which controls communication between the port 3 and the pump barrel. By adjusting the plunger or barrel angularly, the moment at which the port 3 is open to the recess 40 is varied.
