Abstract

359,384. Fuel-injection pumps. NAPIER & SON, Ltd.. D., WILKINSON, G. S., and CHATTERTON, E. E., 211, Acton Vale, London. Sept. 26, 1930, No. 28874. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump foi internal-combustion engines of the type in which the injection is terminated by the opening of a relief port through the piston, the cylinder is formed with a relief groove D3 having a helical lower edge. The piston has a vertical passage B<2> communicating with a horizontal passage B<3>, which, towards the end of the discharge stroke, passes the edge of the groove D3, the time of the relief being varied by rotation of the piston by means of a lever J<2> having splines engaging splines B<1> on the piston. The groove D<3> may communicate directly with the inlet port D, or through a port and passage D<1>. In the former case the upper edge of the groove D<3> may be formed with a short rectangular extension, in order to obtain a quick cut-off.
