Abstract
497,985. Fuel-injection pumps. HUMBOLDT-DEUTZMOTOREN ART. -GES. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5175. Convention date, Feb. 18, 1937. [Class 102 (i.)] In a fuel-injection pump, a piston 15 is reciprocated mechanically and has a bore 19 containing an accumulator piston 16 loaded by a spring. Suction having taken place through ports 21 and passage 20, during upward movement of the piston 15, the fuel trapped in the bore 19 raises the piston 16 until port 25a coincides with the overflow port 24 when the piston 16 descends until the edge 26 closes the port 25a. The port 23a then coincides with the delivery port 22 and fuel is delivered until the inclined edge 27 closes the port 23a. Several ports 23a, 25a are provided so that an interrupted injection takes place. Either of the pistons 15, 16 may be rotated to vary the delivery. The piston 16 may be provided. with a stop, preferably a stiff spring so that the injector jets, if choked, may be cleared. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also an arrangement wherein the end of the piston 16 is flat and the port 24 is connected to an adjustable throttle valve for varying the delivery. In an arrangement of this kind, several pumps are arranged in a circle with parallel cylinders and actuated by a common cam and each of the overflow passages is connected to a common throttle valve. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
