Abstract

706,863. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Aug. 5, 1952 [Aug. 15, 1951], No. 19234/51. Class 102 (1). In a fuel-injection pump in which the delivery amount is controlled by an axially adjustable sleeve e surrounding the pump piston c and controlling the spill from the groove h communicating with the passage f, the sleeve is adjusted by a spring-loaded plunger i responsive to pressure occurring during the initial part of the discharge stroke of the piston, which pressure is adjustable. Fig. 1, shows the plunger i being subjected to pressure through port j and a second port o is fitted with an adjustable throttle valve q; the stroke of the plunger is limited by an adjustable stop m. In a modification, the valve q may be loaded by a spring and rotated to vary the throttle opening and moved axially by the pressure in the pump cylinder to reduce the throttle opening; the same effect may be obtained by forming a groove in the plunger i to co-operate with a groove in the pump casing and arranging for the plunger to be rotated. The pump has. an inlet valve r and may be of the type having a rotary distributor to supply several engine-cylinders.
