Abstract

461,521. Fuel - injection pumps. SCINTILLA, Ltd. Nov. 23, 1935, No. 32542. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1934. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel - injection pump comprises a cam actuated piston b having an axial bore k connected to a recess h registering with a delivery port #. An accumulator plunger c is loaded by a spring and its stroke towards the piston b is limited by a wedge p to vary the quantity delivered. The edge y of the recess h is positioned so that for certain positions of the piston, which is rotatable, the port f is throttled and consequently the injection is carried out in several charges. The throttling may take place at idle running or starting and the rack o for rotating the piston b may be interconnected with a timing device and an abutment for the wedge p and either a starting mechanism or a governing device. The edge y may be stepped as shown in Fig. 9 so that throttling takes place at the beginning of injection. The recess h and an edge on the end of the piston h may be inclined.
