Abstract

353,771. Fuel pumps. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D., VIGERS, R. W., and CHATTERTON, E. E., 211, Acton Vale, Acton, London. Sept. 26, 1930, No. 28875. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel pump for an internal-combustion engine of the type in which the plunger is rotated in order to vary the time of the relief through the opening of a discharge passage through the piston, two helica edges are provided which simultane ously close the discharge port and o p e n the relief port. A single groove B<2> may be provided communicating with the pressure chamber B<3> through a passage B<4>, or by means of a circumferential slot, and having a lower helical edge which controls the discharge port C and an upper helical edge controlling the relief port D. The relief port may be the suction port, or a separate port. Alternatively separate grooves O<1>, O<2>, Fig. 4, may be provided controlling the relief port Q and the discharge port R, respectively, both grooves communicating with the pressure chamber through passages P<1>, P<2>, P<3> in the piston. The grooves O<1>, O<2> may be formed in the piston, or in the cylinder, as shown.
