Abstract

412,243. Fuel-injection pumps. SIMMS MOTOR UNITS, Ltd., and ATTWOOD, S. H., Percy Buildings, Gresse Street, London. Sept. 23, 1932, No. 26519. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump the plunger 1, Fig. 6, is formed with two diametrically opposite ports 3, 4, 5 of triangular shape. These ports communicate with the compression space by radial passages 6 and an axial passage 7 in the plunger, and the inclined edges 5 of the ports cooperate with inclined spill slots 12 in the barrel discharging into a space 13. The suction may take place from the space 13 through the slots 12 and an internal groove in the barrel communicating with the slots 12. Alternatively, the suction may take place from a separate suction chamber 11 through a port 14 in the barrel communicating with an internal groove in the barrel, which co-operates with the bases 4 of the plunger ports. The plunger is rotatable by means of a rack 15, Fig. 2, gearing with a wheel 16 having a splined engagement 17 with the plunger. In a multicylinder pump the rack is mounted in eccentric bearings 18 to permit disengagement for individual adjustment of the plungers.
