Abstract

420,840. Fuel - injection pumps. L'ORANGE, R., 25, Sattlerstrasse, Stuttgart, Germany, and SIMMS MOTOR UNITS, Ltd., Percy Buildings, Gresse Street, Rathbone Place, Oxford Street, London. June 17, 1933, No. 17353. Convention date, Feb. 9. [Class 102 (i)] In a fuel-injection pump in which the suction ports are controlled by the plunger, the suction and spill take place through separate passages. As shown the suction takes place through an axial bore 29 and radial passages 30 in the plunger co-operating with a groove 31 in the liner, which communicates by means of passages 32 with a groove 33 in the casing in communication with the inlet pipe 36. The spill is effected by a helical groove 38 on the exterior of the plunger which is in constant communication with a groove 39 in the liner. The upper end of the groove 38 co-operates with the inclined edge of a pocket in the liner which is in constant communication with the compression space. The groove 39 discharges by passages 40 into a groove 41 which discharges by a passage 42<a> into the pipe 36. In a modification the spill discharges into a separate pipe. Specification 409,125 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the passages 40, 42<a> may be tangential. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
