734,962. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V., Ltd. March 8, 1954 [March 16, 1953], No. 7153/53. Class 102 (1). In a fuel - injection pump a rotor b has a diametral bore d containing a pair of pistons e that are reciprocated by a cam track f. An axial bore g connects the pump chamber with a radial bore j that distributes the fuel to the engine cylinders. Radial passages h connect the inlet port i to the pump chamber and also cooperate with a cavity o containing a spring- pressed accumulator piston m so that the cavity o is connected to a delivery pipe at the end, or shortly before, of the discharge stroke of the pistons e whereby excess pressure is reduced and drip at the injector is,prevented; the fuel absorbed in the cavity o is returned to the pump on the next suction stroke. The stroke of the piston m may be adjustably limited and can be eliminated to provide extra fuel at starting.
