Abstract
616,721. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd., and NICOLLS, W. E. W. Sept. 9, 1946, No. 27010. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel pump for injecting fuel into an internal combustion engine comprises a number of radial pistons e arranged around a cam f and the inlet fuel is controlled to each piston by a valve h which also controls the supply to a metering device comprising a piston i to which the fuel is supplied under pressure to alternate ends, and when supplied to one end moves the piston to discharge the fuel at the other end to the pump. The pistons e of the pump are moved towards the cam a distance determined by the amount of fuel received. The stroke of the piston i is limited by a stop p adjusted by a diaphragm w subjected to the engine manifold pressure.
