Abstract

777,536. Starting fuel-injection engines. BOSCH GES., R. July 25, 1955 [July 29, 1954], No. 21393/55. Class 7 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A fuel injection pump comprises a piston 4 that operates in a closed cylinder 25 and is pressed by a spring 27 against a distributer member 3 of different diameter that is rotated and also reciprocated by a cam which engages stationary members. Suction takes place through ports 41 in the distributer which cooperate with a port 40 in the casing and the delivery is varied by an axially adjustable sleeve 21 which co-operates with a spill port 24. The fuel is delivered through a valve 17, which prevents drip at the injection nozzles, to a port 33 which connects to a number of outlets 34 in sequence. The piston 4 and cylinder 25 may be replaced by other units having pistons of different cross sectional areas. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 2, the sleeve 21 is fixed in an adjusted position by a pin 51 to give a maximum normal fuel delivery and a throttle valve 50 in the pump suction 40 varies the delivery within this range. To permit extra fuel for starting, the outlet 62 of the spill chamber 20 is closed by a valve 56 until the pressure of the feed pump 36 moves the valve against the spring 61.
