Abstract

1,145,977. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. April 1, 1966 [April 1, 1965], No.14498/66. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump having a pumping piston 1 which is adapted to be driven so that the number of fuel pumping strokes which it executes is greater than and an integral multiple of the number of strokes required to supply an I. C. engine, the movable part of the pump distributing arrangement co-operates with at least one passage 8 leading to the suction side 7 of the pump for the passage of fuel from the pumping chamber 6 during those pumping strokes not required to supply the engine. The rotatable piston 1 constitutes the movable part of the distributing arrangement and on the engine supply strokes a groove 13 cooperates with two conduits 14 leading to the engine fuel injectors. On the non-injection strokes the pumping chamber remains in communication with the suction chamber 7 through a groove 30 which increases the angular width of suction grooves 10 on the piston. In further distributing arrangements, Figs. 5, 8, 11 and 13 (not shown), piston distributer grooves provide for supply to a three cylinder engine, a single cylinder engine and a two cylinder engine at even and uneven intervals, respectively. In further embodiments, Figs. 14 to 18 (not shown), the distributing groove (13) on the pump piston (1) co-operates with relief conduits (31) leading to the pump suction chamber (7) between connections to one, two or three fuel delivery conduits (14).
