Abstract

1,118,461. Fuel injection pumps; fuel injector. VYSKUMNY USTAV PRISLUSENSTVO MOTORVYCH VOZIDEL. June 30, 1965 [July 3, 1964], No.27670/65. Headings F1A and F1B. The plunger of a combined fuel injector and injection pump is actuated on the delivery stroke by hydraulic pressure and on the return stroke by a spring, the return or suction stroke length being controlled by throttling the outlet from the actuating end of the plunger cylinder. The actuating end of the plunger may be larger in diameter than the delivery end. Each pump/injector is connected to a separate outlet 79 of a rotary distributor type pump having a distributing passage 78 which communicates with each of the outlets in turn as the rotor 65 rotates. Also formed in the rotor in the same transverse plane as the passage 78 is a groove 86 which separately communicates with each of the outlets 79 in turn before the passage 78. The groove 86 is connected through a throttle 90 to a tapered recess 89 on the periphery of the rotor 65 and a sleeve 93 having radial passages 98 corresponding to the passages 79 is slidable over the recess. The position of the sleeve 93 controls the period that the recess 86 communicates with the low-pressure outlet 99 and hence the return stroke of the injection plunger. The distributor channel 73 communicates with a spring-loaded accumulator piston 80, controlling the pressure build up, the axial position of which is adjustable by means of shims 85. Injection is terminated by the opening to spill passages of the delivery side of the injection plunger, followed by the actuating end.
