Abstract

1,198,159. Fuel injection pumps. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. June 21, 1968 [June 22, 1967], No.29825/68. Heading F1A. In a fuel injection pump of the spill port type, rididly inter-connected pistons 4, 3 of smaller and larger diameters have control edge 13a, 13b and 21a, 21b for delivery pilot and main injections and reciprocate in respective portions of a stepped bore in a cylinder 6 that is closed by a plug 8 and held by a spring 9 so that the plug 8 bears against a disc 11 abutting a fixed stop 12. The cylinder 6 is privotable and angularly adjustable by a screw arrangement 25, 25a. The working chamber 7b of piston 4 is filled with fuel from suction chamber 15 via passage 16., chamber 5 and port 14. The pilot injection proceeds through a delivery line 19 via passage 17, radial passage 18a and groove 18 in piston 3. The working chamber 7a of piston 3 is filled via port 23, groove 21 and piston passage 20 and the main injector proceeds through a delivery line 22 in passage 20 and groove 21. The groove 18, 21 are of segmental construction and are radially opposed on piston 3. The disc 11 may be replaced by discs of varying thicknesses to vary the axial position of cylinder 6 thereby allowing adjustment in timing of the pilot injection.
