Abstract

1,109,020. Fluid-pressure servomotor systems. V.D. ROOSA. Oct. 26, 1966 [Nov. 1, 1965; Dec. 9, 1965], No. 48040/66. Heading G3P. [Also in Division F1] In a fuel injection pump the injection plungers 44 are actuated by a cam ring 50 adjustable by means of a piston 102 to vary the injection timing. The piston 102 contains an adjustably spring biased valve piston 105 housing a check valve and the piston 105 is subject to the outlet pressure of a feed pump 18 in a chamber 106. Land 110 0 on piston 105 controls a port 111 communicating through a passage 112 with the left-hand end of the piston 102 and may connect the passage to the chamber 106 or to the interior of the pump housing via passage 114. The balanced position of the piston 105 within the piston 102 is dependent upon the feed pump pressure which is a function of the speed of the pump and therefore the piston 102 will operate to advance or retard injection in accordance with speed.
