Abstract

1,180,630. Fuel injection pumps. AUTOMOBILES PEUGEOT. July 26, 1967 [Aug.1, 1966; May 18, 1967], No.34334/67. Heading F1A. A fuel injection pump chamber communicates through restrictor means with a device which deducts a portion of the fuel delivered during the injection stroke. Means are provided to neutralize the device in accordance with an engine condition. As shown in Fig.1 the device comprises a spring loaded piston 14 in a chamber 15 connected to the pump chamber 8 through an orifice 16. Rise of the piston 14 is prevented at a given speed by feed pump pressure, which varies in accordance with engine speed, which pressure is applied to a piston 24 through connection 27. In a modification Fig.3 (not shown), after a given movement of the piston (14a) a port opens to by-pass the restriction 15 so that the piston (14a) rises suddenly, which results in a double injection. In a second embodiment the restriction is replaced by a valve extension on the piston (14b, Fig. 5 not shown). In a third embodiment Fig.7 (not shown), the neutralizing piston 24 is replaced by a piston (83) having a profiled cam surface movable at right angles to the axis of the piston 14 and acting thereon through a push rod.
