1,133,171. Fuel injection systems. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NœRNBERG A.G. Jan. 12, 1967 [Jan. 28, 1966], No.1817/67. Heading F1B. The opening of a fuel injector valve 10, supplied with fuel from an accumulator chamber 3, is controlled hydraulically by a pump 11 and a valve 18, operated by the fuel pressure and the hydraulic circuit pressure, closes automatically to prevent fuel flow to the injector if the needle valve 10 sticks open. The valve 10 is held closed by the fuel pressure acting upon a plunger 9, until the pump 11 supplies hydraulic pressure through pipe 15 to a space beneath the head of a plunger 16 which overcomes plunger 9 and allows valve 10 to open. The injection period is controlled by rotation of the piston of pump 11 to vary the period for which pipe 15 is pressurized.
