Abstract

1383466 Fuel injection pumps STANADYNE Inc 14 May 1973 [7 June 1972] 22872/73 Heading F1A The cam ring 28 of a rotary distributor type fuel injection pump is angularly adjustable to vary the injection timing by a piston 40a slidable in a chamber 50 in a cap 64a, a one-way valve 80 being provided in the chamber 50 to prevent the high pressure pulses occurring therein from destroying the seals 60, 62 sealing the cap 64a to the pump housing. The timing is advanced by fluid supplied to the chamber 50 through a passage 48 in the housing, an annular chamber 49 and an axial groove 68 between the cap and housing, passages 70, 72 in the cap, and the valve 80 which is in the form of a flat annular reed. The fluid admitted to the chamber 50 displaces the piston 40a from a fully retarded position abutting a shoulder 92 against the action of a spring 52a, the latter being adjustable by a screw 82. If the pressure in the chamber 50 falls, it bleeds away through an orifice 86 or 86a and past the piston ring 56.
