Abstract

723,672. Fuel-injection pumps. C. A. V., Ltd. June 9, 1953. [April 9, 1952] No. 9049/52. Class 102(1). A fuel-injection pump comprises a rotor d having one or more plungers f in radial cylinders and reciprocated bv a cam surface on the ring a. The rotor has a stem c which has a radial port that distributes the fuel to a number of outlets m each fitted with spring- loaded non-return valve 8 or a single non-return valve may be fitted to the passage h before the connection to the outlets. The stem c has spill ports r and the amount of injection is varied by adjusting a sleeve o relative to the stem ; the sleeve o may be rotated or moved axially. A second sleeve 3 may be adjusted to interrupt the flow of fuel to the pump during the suction stroke. When two plungers f are used, they may be pressed apart by a spring 13; in a modification, their outward movement is limited by the engagement of claws on their inner ends. One plunger may remain stationary by engaging a concentric surface on the ring a while the other engages a cam surface. The chamber e is filled with lubricant for the cam engaging surfaces.
