Abstract

858,980. Fuel injection pumps. C.A:V. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 30635/58. Class 102(1). Fuel is fed to the rotary cylinder of a fuel injection pump by a feed pump 5 through passages 17 in a rotary distributer 11 and fuel discharged from the cylinder passes through a valve 13 to a passage 14 which distributes to outlets 15. Each of two pistons 8 or a single piston reciprocated in the cylinder by an annular cam 10, has an axial bore containing a spill valve 18 having a circumferential groove 18a and an axial or helical groove 18b connecting the groove 18a with the working chamber. The valves 18 are engaged by wedge members 19 rotating with and axially adjustable by governor or automatic means relative to the rotor whereby the radial position of the valves and hence the point of spill when the groove 18a is uncovered by the piston on the inward stroke is variable.
