Abstract

857,970. Fuel injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1959 [Sept. 25, 1958], No. 30633/58. Class 102(1). The rotor 5 of a fuel injection pump is supported by rollers 9 which coact with members 8 engaging the piston 7, or directly with the end of the piston, to reciprocate the piston in the cylinder 6 which is supplied with fuel by a feed pump 11 through a passage 13 and ducts 14, 15 in the rotary distributer 4. The rollers 9 are mounted in recesses in an annulus 10 angularly adjustable to vary the timing of injection. The piston discharges through the passage 15 and a valve 16 to the distributing duct 17 ; a helical shoulder 23 coacts with a return duct 24 and the piston is angularly adjustable by means of a rack 20 to vary the quantity of fuel discharged. In an alternative construction the pump is fed through a throttle valve.
